Federal Contractors Asked to Keep Their Inspection Paperwork Neat

## Summary

Contractors working with the government need to keep and share records about inspecting supplies, services, and construction work. The government is asking to extend the approval for collecting this info, so nothing changes but paperwork stays in check. If you’re involved, get ready to keep those inspection records tidy and submit any comments by July 16, 2025.

## Abstract

Under the provisions of the Paperwork Reduction Act, the Regulatory Secretariat Division has submitted to OMB a request to review and approve an extension of a previously approved information collection requirement regarding Federal Acquisition Regulation part 46 requirements.

FAR 52.246-26 requires contractors to notify the contracting officer within 60 days after becoming aware or having reason to suspect that an item is counterfeit or suspect counterfeit. Certain contractors must also submit a report to the Government-Industry Data Exchange Program (GIDEP) at www.gide…
- Exemption for Small Purchases Below Threshold: benefit, low. The FAR inspection clauses do not apply when the contract amount is expected to be less than the simplified acquisition threshold.
- Continuation of Paperwork Collection (OMB Extension): cost, low. The agencies are seeking OMB approval to extend the existing information collection for FAR part 46 requirements so current recordkeeping and reporting requirements continue; comments are due by July 16, 2025. The notice lists 7,859 respondents, 9,301 annual responses, and 33,015 total annual burde…
