Commerce Probes Lumber Subsidies from Foreign Exporters

## Summary

The U.S. Department of Commerce wants your thoughts on any government help (subsidies) given by countries exporting softwood lumber to the U.S. from January to June 2025. This info helps them report to Congress every six months about these subsidies, which could affect trade and prices. If you have info or opinions, send them in by December 4, 2025, to help shape future trade decisions.

## Abstract

The U.S. Department of Commerce (Commerce) seeks public comment on any subsidies, including stumpage subsidies, provided by certain countries exporting softwood lumber or softwood lumber products to the United States during the period January 1, 2025, through June 30, 2025. Pursuant to section 805 of title VIII of the Tariff Act of 1930 (the Softwood Lumber Act of 2008), the Secretary of Commerce is mandated to submit to the appropriate Congressional committees a report every 180 days on any subsidy provided by countries exporting softwood lumber or softwood lumber products to the United States, including stumpage subsidies.
