Nebraska Nuclear Plant Seeks 20-Year License Extension

## Summary

Nebraska Public Power District wants to keep running the Cooper Nuclear Station for 20 more years after its current license ends in 2034. The Nuclear Regulatory Commission is reviewing this request and inviting the public to ask questions or speak up by August 10, 2026. This extension means steady power for Nebraska and nearby areas without big changes in costs or operations—just more years of safe energy.

## Abstract

The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC, the Commission) is considering an application for the subsequent renewal of Renewed Facility Operating License No. DPR-46, which authorizes Nebraska Public Power District (NPPD) to operate Cooper Nuclear Station (Cooper). The subsequent renewed license would authorize NPPD to operate Cooper for an additional 20 years beyond the period specified in the current renewed license. The current renewed license for Cooper expires January 18, 2034.
