Airbus A330s Need Wing Crack Checks, FAA Says

## Summary

The FAA is requiring all Airbus A330-841 and A330-941 planes to get regular checks for cracks on certain wing parts to keep flights safe. Starting September 3, 2026, airlines must inspect and fix any problems found, which might cost some time and money but keeps everyone flying safely. This rule helps catch issues early before they become big problems in the sky!

## Abstract

The FAA is adopting a new airworthiness directive (AD) for all Airbus SAS Model A330-841 and Model A330-941 airplanes. This AD was prompted by reports of crack findings on the sloping rib. This AD requires a repetitive inspection of the external surface of each sloping rib and each slat 1 inboard seal, and applicable corrective actions. The FAA is issuing this AD to address the unsafe condition on these products.

## Effects PRIA read

- A330-841/941: Required repetitive inspections: cost, low. If you operate Airbus Model A330-841 or A330-941 airplanes, you must perform repetitive inspections of the external surface of each sloping rib and each slat 1 inboard seal and do any required corrective actions. This AD adopts the actions in EASA AD 2025-0179 and is effective September 3, 2026.
- Estimated compliance cost and affected fleet: cost, low. The FAA estimates this AD affects 37 U.S.-registered A330-841 and A330-941 airplanes. The FAA estimates 1 work-hour per inspection at $85 per airplane (cost per product $85) and a total estimated cost to U.S. operators of $3,145; on-condition repair costs were not estimated.
