FAA Updates Maintenance Rules for MHI Regional Jets

## Summary

The FAA is updating safety rules for all MHI RJ Aviation ULC regional jets (formerly Bombardier models) to keep them flying safely. Starting September 3, 2026, operators must follow stricter maintenance and inspection schedules to fix potential safety issues. This change helps prevent problems but might mean some extra work and costs for airlines.

## Abstract

The FAA is adopting a new airworthiness directive (AD) for all MHI RJ Aviation ULC Model CL-600-2C10 (Regional Jet Series 700, 701 & 702), CL-600-2C11 (Regional Jet Series 550), CL-600-2D15 (Regional Jet Series 705), and CL-600-2D24 (Regional Jet Series 900) airplanes. This AD was prompted by a determination that new or more restrictive airworthiness limitations are necessary. This AD requires revising the existing maintenance or inspection program, as applicable, to incorporate new or more restrictive airworthiness limitations. The FAA is issuing this AD to address the unsafe condition on these products.

## Effects PRIA read

- New mandatory maintenance limits for certain regional jets: cost, high. If you operate MHI RJ Aviation ULC Model CL-600-2C10, CL-600-2C11, CL-600-2D15, or CL-600-2D24 airplanes, you must revise your maintenance or inspection program to incorporate the new or more restrictive airworthiness limitation items identified in Transport Canada AD CF-2025-26. This AD is effecti…
- Estimated compliance work-hours and cost: cost, high. The FAA estimates this AD affects 589 U.S.-registered airplanes and that revising an operator's maintenance or inspection program takes about 90 work-hours at $85 per hour. The FAA's average estimated total cost per operator to revise the program is $7,650 (90 hours × $85/hour).
- Terminates certain prior AD tasks: benefit, low. If you accomplish the actions required by this AD, those actions terminate the corresponding requirements of AD 2025-25-03 for the tasks identified in the material referenced in Transport Canada AD CF-2025-26. This termination applies only for the tasks identified in the referenced material.
- No alternative inspections allowed without approval: cost, low. After you revise your maintenance or inspection program as required, you may not use alternative actions or intervals (such as different inspections) unless they are approved under the provisions of the 'Corrective Actions' section of Transport Canada AD CF-2025-26. Any alternative method of compli…
