LA Gets Old Artifacts Back, Now to Tribes

## Summary

The Louisiana Division of Archaeology has finished listing human remains and artifacts from an old site in Jackson Parish, LA, linking them to Native American tribes. These items, collected decades ago and recently returned to Louisiana, can be officially returned to tribes starting August 31, 2026. This process helps honor Native American heritage and involves no costs for the tribes.

## Abstract

In accordance with the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act (NAGPRA), the Louisiana Division of Archaeology (LDOA) has completed an inventory of human remains and associated funerary objects and has determined that there is a cultural affiliation between the human remains and associated funerary objects and Indian Tribes or Native Hawaiian organizations in this notice.
