FAA Tweaks Flight Paths at Airports for Safety and Tech Updates

## Summary

Starting August 5, 2026, the FAA is updating flight rules for certain airports to keep flying safe and smooth. Pilots and airports will see changes to how they approach, take off, and avoid obstacles because of new tech and airspace updates. These tweaks help everyone fly smarter without extra costs or delays.

## Abstract

This rule amends, suspends, or removes Standard Instrument Approach Procedures (SIAPs) and associated Takeoff Minimums and Obstacle Departure Procedures for operations at certain airports. These regulatory actions are needed because of the adoption of new or revised criteria, or because of changes occurring in the National Airspace System, such as the commissioning of new navigational facilities, adding new obstacles, or changing air traffic requirements. These changes are designed to provide for the safe and efficient use of the navigable airspace and to promote safe flight operations under instrument flight rules at the affected airports.

## Effects PRIA read

- Instrument Flight Procedure Amendments Take Effect: benefit, low. If you fly under instrument flight rules (pilots, airlines, and flight operators), the FAA amended, suspended, or removed Standard Instrument Approach Procedures (SIAPs), Takeoff Minimums, and Obstacle Departure Procedures effective August 5, 2026. Each procedure’s specific effective date and time…
- Procedures Available Free Online: benefit, low. All SIAPs and Takeoff Minimums and Obstacle Departure Procedures are available online free of charge via the FAA National Flight Data Center (NFDC) — you can register at nfdc.faa.gov to access them. Individual copies may also be obtained from the FAA Air Traffic Organization Service Area for the af…
- FAA: Minimal Economic Impact on Small Entities: benefit, low. The FAA certified that these SIAP, Takeoff Minimum, and ODP amendments are routine technical updates and determined they will not have a significant economic impact on a substantial number of small entities under the Regulatory Flexibility Act. The rule is not a "significant regulatory action" unde…
