DoD kills off old travel tracking system—privacy win?

## Summary

The Department of Defense is officially shutting down its Commercial Travel Information Management System on September 16, 2026. This system used to keep track of DoD travel records to help with safety, planning, and fraud detection. If you’re involved in DoD travel, this change means your travel info won’t be stored in this old system anymore, but no extra costs or delays are expected.

## Abstract

In accordance with the Privacy Act of 1974, the OSD is providing notice to rescind a system of records (SORN) titled "Commercial Travel Information Management System (CTIM)," DHRA 14 DoD. The CTIM was established as a repository to collect, maintain, and use DoD travel records from both the Defense Travel System (DTS) and commercial travel vendors. This centralized system is used to satisfy reporting requirements, ensure traveler safety, assist in resource planning, detect fraud, and provide customer support for all DoD official travel-related services.

## Effects PRIA read

The rescindment is effective September 16, 2026, and the notice states those travel records are now covered under the "Defense Travel System, DHRA 08 DoD."
