OMB Asks Which Medicine Factories Could Ramp Up Production

## Summary

The Office of Management and Budget (OMB) is giving companies and experts more time to share info about U.S. and nearby factories that make important medicines. The comment period is now open until November 27, 2026, so folks can provide details on unused production capabilities. This helps the government plan better for medicine supplies without any immediate costs or deadlines beyond the new submission date.

## Abstract

The Office of Management and Budget (OMB) published in the Federal Register a request for information (RFI) regarding new and unused (idle) domestic, U.S.-based, and near shore production capabilities for Finished Dose Forms, Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients, and Key Starting Materials associated with the Administration for Strategic Preparedness and Response (ASPR) 86 List of essential medicines. The RFI provided for a 30-day response period which closed on October 26, 2026. OMB has determined that reopening the comment period until November 27, 2026, is appropriate. This action will allow interested parties additional time to prepare information and responses.
