FAA Revisits Boeing 757 Wiring Instructions to Fix Earlier Errors

## Summary

The FAA is updating safety rules for certain Boeing 757 airplanes to fix errors in previous instructions about wiring and relay fixes. This means some planes will need new parts installed, wiring changed, and tests done to keep flying safely. Owners must comment by December 18, 2026, and be ready for possible costs and work to avoid risks with the power transfer unit.

## Abstract

The FAA proposes to supersede Airworthiness Directive (AD) 2024-25-09, which applies to certain The Boeing Company Model 757 airplanes. AD 2024-25-09 requires installing new relays and changing certain wire bundles leading to the power transfer unit (PTU) control valve. Since the FAA issued AD 2024-25-09, the FAA determined that the requirements bulletin mandated by AD 2024-25-09 contains errors. In some cases, those errors prevent the actions required by AD 2024-25-09 from being fully accomplished. In other cases, the errors would allow actions that could introduce new hazards affecting the operation and thus the availability of the PTU. This proposed AD would require, depending on the airplane configuration, installing new relays and new connectors, changing certain wire bundles, doing an operational test, and applicable on-condition actions. The FAA is proposing this AD to address the unsafe condition on these products.

## Effects PRIA read

- Required wiring and relay fixes on Boeing 757s: cost, high. If you operate certain Boeing 757-200, -200PF, -200CB, or -300 airplanes, you must install new relays and connectors, change specified wire bundles, and perform an operational test per Boeing Alert Requirements Bulletin 757-29A0071 RB, Revision 1, dated May 28, 2026. The FAA estimates the work take…
- Possible small follow-up repairs from inspections: cost, low. After the required inspections and operational test, some airplanes may need on-condition corrective work. The FAA lists examples: rerouting wire bundle W2514 (estimated 1 work-hour = $85) and installing a seal ring (estimated 1 work-hour = $85 plus $10 parts = $95). The agency did not estimate how…
