Child Support Data Matching Promises 43 Percent Less Paperwork

## Summary

The Office of Child Support Enforcement wants to keep matching insurance data with child support records for three more years but with less paperwork—cutting the burden by over 43%! This helps agencies collect unpaid child support from insurance payouts faster. Insurers and related agencies should note the updated rules and get ready to comment by January 4, 2027.

## Abstract

The Office of Child Support Enforcement (OCSE), Administration for Children and Families (ACF), is requesting Office of Management and Budget (OMB) approval of the Information Comparison with Insurance Data (OMB #0970-0342, expiration January 31, 2027) for an additional 3 years. OCSE revised the Insurance Match Implementation Guide and reduced the burden by 43.25 percent.

## Effects PRIA read

- Continued Insurance Matches for Child Support: benefit, medium. OCSE will continue matching insurance claims and payments with child support records for an additional 3 years (OMB #0970-0342). OCSE sends daily match results that child support agencies use to collect past-due support from insurance proceeds.
- Insurer Reporting Burden Cuts 43.25%: benefit, medium. OCSE revised its process and reduced the reporting burden for insurers by 43.25%, cutting total annual burden from 3,090.86 hours to 1,754.09 hours (a reduction of 1,336.77 hours). The number of insurers manually reporting daily fell from 150 to 65.
- Electronic Quarterly Reporting Option Recognized: benefit, low. OCSE incorporated a separate burden calculation for respondents that choose electronic quarterly reporting. The Insurance Match File: Quarterly Reporting electronically shows 2 respondents with 4 responses each and a total annual burden of 0.66 hours.
