## Summary

**National Slavery Remembrance Month.** This joint resolution would designate an annual Slavery Remembrance Month to condemn slavery and its lasting legacies and to honor the people who fought to end it. It expressly condemns slavery and eight related practices: convict leasing, Black codes, Jim Crow laws, mass lynching, lawful segregation, police brutality, mass incarceration, and institutionalized invidious discrimination. The measure encourages public acknowledgement and asks the President to issue a proclamation calling on Americans to observe the month with appropriate ceremonies and activities, framing the observance with historical recitals that trace slavery’s impact back to 1619.
