## Summary

**Brings care services into economic development planning.** This bill would amend the Public Works and Economic Development Act to require that comprehensive economic development strategies include an objective to directly or indirectly increase access to affordable, quality care-based services. It names child care, early childhood education, disability and long-term care, and elder care as examples of those services and ties them to regional planning for federal economic development grants. - Families and caregivers: Local plans would have to consider access to affordable, quality care such as child care and elder care, which could change local priorities and project choices that affect family caregiving needs. - Local governments and grant applicants: Eligible recipients of Economic Development Administration grants would need to add care-access objectives to their comprehensive economic development strategies to align with the updated criteria. Existing approved strategies would be updated only at their next regularly scheduled revision. - Department of Commerce: The Secretary would be required to issue guidance within one year on how to integrate care-access objectives into comprehensive economic development strategies and grant planning.
