## Summary

**Gives the President power to temporarily suspend the federal gas tax during a national emergency.** The bill would let the President set the federal base gasoline and diesel tax to zero for a 60-day window that can be extended once to 120 days and requires Treasury to transfer money from the general fund to replace lost receipts for the Highway Trust Fund and the Leaking Underground Storage Tank Trust Fund. - Drivers and households: Would pay no federal base gas tax on fuel sold during a declared suspension, lowering pump taxes for 60 to 120 days. - Highway and LUST trust funds: Treasury must transfer amounts from the general fund to make up for the credits the suspension removes so those funds keep receiving their prior levels of receipts. - Presidential limits and timing: The President must find a substantial disruption in supply or a substantial price increase to trigger the pause, only one suspension is allowed per emergency, and the authority ends for fuel sold after December 31, 2028. *Would shift the cost of lost gas-tax receipts onto the federal general fund by requiring transfers to the Highway Trust Fund and the Leaking Underground Storage Tank Trust Fund.*
