## Summary

**National Plan for Epilepsy** would create a federally coordinated plan to prevent, diagnose, treat, and cure epilepsy and to improve care and quality of life for people with epilepsy and their caregivers. - People with epilepsy and families would see a stronger national focus on early diagnosis, coordinated care, and reducing deaths and financial strain. Nearly 3 million adults and 456,000 children in the U.S. live with epilepsy and over 30 percent have uncontrolled seizures. - Researchers and clinicians would gain clearer federal coordination and advice to speed safer, more effective treatments. An Advisory Council with federal and nonfederal experts, including representatives from 7 federal agencies, would meet regularly and report recommendations. - Federal agencies would review progress through an initial assessment within 2 years and annual reports to Congress, and must share epilepsy data across agencies. The program authority would expire on December 31, 2035.

- Epilepsy plan ends after 2035 unless renewed: cost, low. If enacted, the National Plan and the advisory council would expire on December 31, 2035, unless Congress extends them.
