## Summary

**This bill would create a federal program to sequence and publish genomes of aquatic species.** It would set standard data rules, fund sequencing work, and let Tribal governments control release of tribal-origin data when they choose. - Researchers and conservation managers would get reference genomes and linked metadata to improve species identification, conservation planning, and enforcement actions. - Museums, universities, states, and nonprofits could receive funding and technical help to catalog vouchered specimens, collect or buy samples, do DNA extraction and sequencing, and must submit completed data to NCBI within 360 days. - Tribal governments retain sole authority to decide if and when genomes they sequence or provide are submitted for public release. - The public would gain broader access to genomes and metadata under FAIR data principles, including species, collection location and date, and sequencing methods. *Authorizes $2.0 million per year from 2025 through 2031 to carry out the program.*

The program would collect samples, extract DNA, build reference genomes, and share data under FAIR data rules. Most data would be sent to the National Center for Biotechnolog…
