## Summary

**Splits the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases into three distinct institutes.** This bill would reorganize NIAID into the National Institute of Allergic Diseases, the National Institute of Infectious Diseases, and the National Institute of Immunologic Diseases to create clearer, disease-focused research centers. - Patients and families would see research and program priorities grouped by disease type, with one institute focused on infectious and tropical diseases and another focused on immunologic disorders. - Researchers and grantees would move into institute-specific portfolios, and the NIH Director must manage an orderly transition to preserve continuity of studies, training, and programs. - Governance would change: each new institute would have a Director appointed by the President with Senate consent for five-year terms and one possible reappointment. The existing NIAID Director position would terminate and statutes would be updated so legal references point to the appropriate new institute.
