## Summary

**Lets temporary civilian federal service performed after Dec. 31, 1988 count toward Federal Employees Retirement System benefits.** This removes a decades‑old cutoff so later temporary service can be treated as creditable service for retirement purposes. - Temporary federal employees, including temporary U.S. Postal Service employees, would be able to count service performed on or after Jan 1, 1989 toward FERS if they make the required deposit. - Individuals identified as "Members" in the retirement code would also be eligible to credit post‑1988 temporary service toward retirement. - The Office of Personnel Management would have to notify agency Chief Human Capital Officers and issue regulations so agencies can inform eligible employees and accept deposit requests.
