## Summary

**Expands Pell Grant eligibility to cover some postbaccalaureate study and raises the maximum Pell period from 12 to 16 semesters.** This bill would let students who used Pell for part of a bachelor’s degree use remaining Pell for a first postbaccalaureate program, as long as they meet eligibility rules and the total does not exceed the new 16-semester cap. - Students and families: Students who received Pell for 1 to 15 semesters while completing a bachelor’s would be able to apply remaining Pell toward their first postbaccalaureate program, provided they still qualify and stay within the 16-semester limit. - Students in remediation: Time spent in noncredit or remedial courses would not count against a student’s Pell period, so those semesters would not reduce Pell eligibility. - Colleges and programs: Eligible institutions could see more students qualify for Pell for initial postbaccalaureate study, which may affect enrollment and how schools plan financial aid for first postbaccalaureate programs.
