## Summary

**Reforms to the CFPB's civil investigative demand process.** This bill would add clear time limits, require factual specificity in demands, create a formal attorney Q&A process with firm response deadlines, expand petition confidentiality, broaden grounds to set aside demands, and allow courts to review denials. - People and companies who receive CFPB demands would get clearer notice and a statutory deadline. CIDs would generally have to be issued within 6 years of the alleged violation. - Attorneys representing targets could submit written questions about a CID's scope and must receive a Bureau response within 20 days or by the CID return date. The Bureau may extend the return date and the deadline to petition when it answers those questions. - Petitioners would have the contents of their petitions treated as confidential. Courts could set aside a CID for failure to follow the statute, for constitutional or legal rights, or for undue burden, duplication, or availability from a less burdensome source. - Denials of Bureau petitions to modify or set aside a CID could be reviewed by a court, creating a direct judicial path for CID disputes.
