## Summary

**The Resident Education Deferred Interest Act would create an** **interest-free deferment** for federal student loans for borrowers serving in medical or dental internships or residencies. It would amend Section 455(f) of the Higher Education Act to add a special in-school deferment that governs these borrowers. During that deferment, borrowers would not have to make principal payments and interest would not accrue on loans made under that part while they remain in their training programs.
