## Summary

**Lets SNAP benefits buy hot, ready-to-eat foods.** It would add hot foods and hot food products ready for immediate consumption to the list of items SNAP can cover, while keeping alcoholic beverages and tobacco excluded and restricting retailers that rely primarily on hot-food sales. - Families and SNAP participants: SNAP recipients could use benefits to purchase hot, ready-to-eat meals and food products that are ready for immediate consumption, expanding what benefits can buy. - Retailers and food vendors: Stores could accept SNAP for hot prepared foods only if no more than 50 percent of their total gross sales come from hot foods or hot food products ready for immediate consumption. - Program rules and definitions: The bill updates SNAP language to include "home or immediate consumption" and explicitly adds hot foods to the enumerated eligible categories.

## Provisions PRIA read

- SNAP could cover hot prepared foods: benefit, medium. If enacted, SNAP benefits could be used to buy hot, ready-to-eat foods. Alcohol and tobacco would still not be allowed. A store could accept SNAP for these items only if hot ready-to-eat foods are 50% or less of its total sales. These changes would take effect upon enactment.
