## Summary

**Rehoming federal research animals.** This bill would require all federal research facilities to create standards that make it easier to place eligible animals no longer needed for research into rescues, sanctuaries, shelters, or with individuals. - Federal research facilities would have 1 year to adopt standards and other requirements to facilitate non-laboratory placement or adoption of eligible animals. - Rescue organizations, sanctuaries, and shelters are defined and must meet specific conditions to receive animals, including 501(c)(3) status for rescues and sanctuaries and sanctuary rules like lifetime care, no commercial trade, and limited public access. - Eligible animals include dogs, cats, nonhuman primates, guinea pigs, hamsters, and rabbits. Each animal must be examined by a licensed veterinarian within 10 days before release and have a certificate showing it appears free of infectious disease or physical problems that would endanger others.
