## Summary

**This bill would create an online federal training course to teach law enforcement how to recognize, communicate with, and safely interact with people who have Alzheimer's disease and similar dementias.** It directs the COPS Office to develop the course in consultation with the Department of Health and Human Services and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services and to make it available within 1 year of enactment. - Families and people living with dementia: Officers trained with these modules would be more likely to use communication techniques and nonphysical alternatives to restraints when engaging someone with dementia. - Law enforcement, correctional officers, and probation officers: Completion would be recommended to count toward required training hours for hiring or continued employment in applicable State departments. - State agencies and credentialers: States would get a federal training resource they can adopt for professional instruction and standards. - Federal health agencies: The Secretary of Health and Human Services and the CMS Administrator would consult on course content, promoting health and justice system coordination.
