## Summary

**Permanently protect inventoried roadless areas in the National Forest System** while keeping forest lands available for multiple uses. The bill would rely on the existing Roadless Rule to define which areas qualify and frames protection inside a multi-use management approach that recognizes mechanized travel and targeted fuel-reduction treatments in many places. - Households and water users: Would help safeguard clean water tied to roadless areas, including drinking water for tens of millions of U.S. residents, and could reduce downstream water filtration costs. - Local recreation economies: Would provide steadier support for businesses that depend on outdoor recreation by preserving places for hiking, camping, fishing, hunting, skiing, and mountain biking. - Tribes and land managers: Would protect sacred sites used by Native Americans and Alaska Natives and would bar road construction, road reconstruction, and logging in inventoried roadless areas where the Roadless Rule prohibits those activities. The bill notes the Forest Service has about 368,000 miles of road-system maintenance backlog and an estimated $6.0 billion cost to eliminate it.
