## Summary

**Public notice and local review for emergency post office suspensions.** This bill would require the Postal Service to follow clear notice, review, and relocation steps when a post office temporarily suspends operations because of an emergency. - Families and residents: Residents would see a sign at the post office and a notice on the Postal Service website on day 1. If a suspension reaches 30 days they could submit comments during a 30-day public review. - Local officials and lawmakers: Each affected Member of the House, each Senator for the State, and the head of each local government unit must be notified within 5 days. Local leaders must be solicited for input on relocations and given a 30-day comment period on proposed new sites. - Postal Service operations: The Postmaster General, working with local postmasters, would be required to create an emergency action plan. If a suspension lasts 60 days the Postal Regulatory Commission must review the case and the Postal Service must begin relocation consistent with existing rules. - Transparency and reporting: Beginning January 1, 2026 and each year after, the Postal Service must report to Congress every emergency suspension with the post office location, duration, and reason.

The notice would say why it closed, how mail will be handled for now, and the expected end date. USPS would also have to tell local government heads, the district’s House Members, and…
- Stronger rules for long post office closures: benefit, low. If enacted, a 30‑day emergency closure would start a 30‑day public review so customers and local officials can comment.
