## Summary

**Would require U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) to hire 1,000 new officers each fiscal year until ports meet staffing levels in the Workload Staffing Model.** It would also push CBP to expand support staff, assess port infrastructure and drug-detection needs, and tighten reporting on temporary duty moves and reimbursable agreements. - CBP officers and support staff: CBP would have to hire, train, and assign not fewer than 1,000 additional CBP officers above attrition each year until staffing matches the Workload Staffing Model. The agency could also hire technicians and Enterprise Services mission support staff to handle non-law enforcement administrative work. - Ports and drug interdiction: A Ports of Entry Infrastructure Enhancement Report must be delivered within 90 days to identify technology, detection equipment for opioids and precursors, and safety gear to protect officers during inspections. The report must explain why some ports cannot use technologies deployed elsewhere. - Oversight and staffing rules: The bill would require quarterly reports on temporary duty assignments, advance notice at least 10 days before redeploying employees except in emergencies, and an annual Workload Staffing Model report tracking hiring progress, attrition, and affected reimbursable services.
