## Summary

**Would expand the Federal CyberCorps scholarship to cover up to five years of eligible tuition.** The bill would lengthen the required public service commitment from three years to five years and would let the National Science Foundation treat scholarship amounts that convert to loans as Federal Direct Unsubsidized Loans. - Students: Scholarships would be able to cover up to 5 years of eligible tuition, up from 3 years now, so more of a degree program could be paid for. - Scholarship recipients: Recipients would have a 5-year work commitment in cybersecurity at a federal agency or institution of higher education. If they fail that obligation, some or all of the award can be repaid or treated as a loan. - Loan treatment and forgiveness: The National Science Foundation would be able to treat the full amount of any scholarship converted to a loan as a Federal Direct Unsubsidized Loan regardless of usual Part D limits, making those amounts eligible for Public Service Loan Forgiveness. - Employers and agencies: Federal agencies and colleges would likely get longer guaranteed service from trained cybersecurity graduates, helping staffing of cyber roles.

## Provisions PRIA read

- Full loans for cyber scholarship students: benefit, medium. If enacted, students in the Federal Cyber Scholarship for Service program would be able to get the full program loan amount. Usual federal student loan caps would not reduce this amount. This would take effect upon enactment.
- Longer service for cyber scholarship students: cost, medium. If enacted, scholarship recipients would have to work five years in eligible government cyber jobs instead of three. This adds two years to the required service after graduation. It would take effect upon enactment.
