## Summary

**Federal jurisdiction for large interstate truck crash lawsuits.** This bill would give federal district courts original jurisdiction over certain high-value interstate trucking accident claims so those cases can proceed in federal court. - Injured plaintiffs and families: Applies to civil actions alleging bodily harm or loss of life from one or more commercial motor vehicles on a public road in interstate commerce when the amount in controversy exceeds $5 million and the parties meet the specified diversity conditions. - Interstate motor carriers and insurers: Those defendants would face federal suits under this new jurisdictional grant when cases meet the bill’s criteria. - Plaintiffs and organizations in litigation: The bill fixes plaintiffs’ citizenship at the date of filing or, if needed, the date of service of an amended pleading or paper that shows federal jurisdiction. It also treats unincorporated associations as citizens of the state of their principal place of business and the state that governs their organization.

## Provisions PRIA read

- Federal court for big truck-crash cases: mixed, low. If enacted, some truck‑crash lawsuits could move to federal court. It would apply to crashes causing injury or death with a commercial truck on an interstate public road. The lawsuit would need to seek more than $5,000,000, not counting interest and costs, and involve parties from different states…
