## Summary

**Expand FEMA's Transitional Sheltering Assistance to protect people at risk from wildfire smoke.** This bill would let FEMA fund smoke-prevention equipment and, when that is not enough, cost-efficient short-term shelter for people in areas with unhealthy air for at least three consecutive days. - Families: Parents or guardians with a child under 19 could receive portable air cleaners, certified respirators like N95s, and low-cost home fixes such as weather stripping to reduce indoor smoke exposure. - Low-income households: Households with taxable income up to 200 percent of the federal poverty level would be eligible for equipment and shelter support. - Seniors and medically vulnerable people: Residents age 65 or older and people with chronic respiratory, cardiovascular, or smoke-exacerbated conditions could get targeted equipment or transitional shelter. - Local health and government bodies: States, local governments, local public health authorities, and coordinated care organizations would receive federal assistance to buy and distribute the equipment and arrange shelter.
