## Summary

**Expands Medicaid coverage for people in institutions for mental diseases (IMDs)**. The bill would remove the long-standing IMD exclusion and strike age-based limits so Medicaid could cover items and services for IMD patients under 65. - Patients and families: Adults under 65 who are patients in IMDs would become eligible for Medicaid-covered items and services beginning Oct 1, 2025. - States: Federal Medicaid statutes would be changed to remove the exclusion language and references to being 65 years of age or older, requiring states to provide medical assistance to IMD patients. - Providers: Psychiatric hospitals and other IMDs that treat adults under 65 could receive Medicaid payments for covered care they furnish.
