## Summary

**This bill would require the Census Bureau to revise the 2020 state population totals to a single, *citizen-only population* count.** It would make federal grant eligibility depend on states adopting and exclusively using that citizen-only tabulation for any purpose that previously relied on the original counts. - States would receive revised 2020 population tabulations within 60 days of enactment and would be required to use those counts for any purpose that used the earlier totals. - Federal grant awards would be barred for any state that does not exclusively use the revised citizen-only tabulation for purposes that previously relied on the original census counts, starting 60 days after a state receives the revised tabulation. - Communities with large noncitizen populations would see the basis for federal grant calculations shift to a citizen-only metric, which could reduce their counted population for grant purposes.

## Provisions PRIA read

- Federal grants tied to citizen-only counts: cost, high. If enacted, the Commerce Secretary would redo 2020 state population counts to include only U.S. citizens. The Secretary would send each state its revised total within 60 days of enactment. Starting 60 days after a state gets the new total, the federal government would not award grants to that state…
