## Summary

**Authorizes index-based frost and cold weather crop insurance research.** This bill would require the Federal Crop Insurance Corporation to carry out or contract research to develop a nationally available index policy to insure crops against losses from frost or cold weather. - Growers. Producers of tomatoes, peppers, sugarcane, strawberries, melons, citrus, peaches, blueberries, and other crops could gain a new national insurance option that aims to cover production loss or revenue loss from frost or cold events. - Federal Crop Insurance Corporation. The agency would be able to conduct research and development and enter contracts with qualified parties to test index-based approaches for low-frequency, catastrophic cold-weather losses. - Policymakers. The FCIC must submit a report to the House and Senate agriculture committees within one year describing the research results and any recommendations.
