## Summary

**Restore and empower Tribal management of buffalo**. This bill would authorize the Secretary of the Interior to partner with Indian Tribes and Tribal organizations to reestablish bison on Indian land, conserve habitat, and support related economic activity. - Tribes and Tribal organizations would be eligible for contracts, cooperative agreements, grants, and technical assistance to plan and carry out buffalo restoration, habitat management, and commercial activities including mobile meat processing facilities. - Tribal households and communities would gain support for subsistence food, dietary and cultural health, spiritual practices, and potential local economic development tied to buffalo herds. - The Department of the Interior could transfer surplus buffalo from Federal land to Indian land and may waive associated charges and deposits for those transfers. - The bill would require government-to-government consultation, protect culturally sensitive tribal information, preserve treaty rights, and the authority would sunset after seven years.
