## Summary

**Requires a health care provider to be physically present for chemical abortions.** This bill would make it a federal offense to provide or attempt to provide a chemical abortion drug without a provider physically examining the patient and being physically present at the location where the abortion is performed. - Families and patients: People seeking a medication abortion would generally need an in-person exam and in-person care. Patients must receive a catch kit and red bag medical waste plus instructions to bring the kit back to the provider. - Health care providers: Clinicians who provide chemical abortion drugs without meeting the physical-presence and exam requirements could face up to 5 years in prison, a fine up to $50,000, or both, per occurrence. - Interstate and drug definitions: The offense applies to conduct "in or affecting interstate commerce." The bill defines "chemical abortion drug" to include mifepristone, misoprostol, and substantially similar drugs.
