## Summary

**National Historic Landmark designation**. This bill would designate the Quindaro Townsite in Kansas City, Kansas, as the Quindaro Townsite National Historic Landmark and create a federally supported framework for preservation, public education, and interpretation. It would let the Secretary of the Interior enter cooperative agreements with public or private partners and provide technical and financial assistance while preserving property owners' rights and local and State administration. - Property owners: Owners retain the ability to act on their property. The designation does not remove or change private property rights. - State and local governments: Kansas City, Kansas, and the State keep responsibility for administering the site. Federal involvement is limited to cooperative agreements and support. - Public and educators: The bill authorizes educational and interpretive facilities and programs to help the public learn about Quindaro's role in the Free-State movement and the Underground Railroad. - Researchers and preservationists: Findings note Quindaro's archaeological integrity and potential for new discoveries, supporting archaeological study and artifact protection.
