## Summary

**Clears default markers from credit reports when a Federal Direct Consolidation Loan discharges a defaulted federal student loan.** The bill would require the Secretary of Education, guaranty agencies, or any other holder of the discharged loan to request that consumer reporting agencies remove the default from the borrower’s credit history. The rule applies only when consolidation discharges liability on a loan made, insured, or guaranteed under the Higher Education Act.
