## Summary

**This bill would create a VA pilot grant program to fund development of AI-based predictive models to identify suicide risk among veterans.** The pilot would be run through the VA Center for Innovation, would start within one year, and would end September 30, 2029. - Veterans and families: Would aim to give VA care teams better risk signals by combining clinical records with Veterans Benefits Administration data so providers can spot at-risk veterans sooner. - Researchers and organizations: Would award grants to nonprofits, universities, and private research groups with AI, machine learning, and health data experience. The Secretary would select at least two recipients and may not pick two recipients in the same Veteran Integrated Services Network (VISN). - VA system and clinicians: Would prioritize models that are explicable, interoperable, and clinically actionable and favor applicants located in areas with high veteran suicide rates or long mental health wait times. Grant recipients must ensure integration of benefits and clinical data and maintain secure data infrastructure while not being forced to transfer proprietary ownership.
