## Summary

**A public, searchable database of violent criminal convictions** would be created to make conviction records widely accessible and to improve nationwide sharing of criminal history. - Families and communities would get free online access to records that can be searched by name, address, date of birth, sex, race, nationality, citizenship, type of conviction, probation status, whether the case ended in a plea or a trial, the sentencing judge and prosecutor, and fines and prison terms. Records would be updated at least quarterly. - People convicted of offenses punishable by more than 180 days that involve or risk the use of physical force would be included, but convictions that are expunged, vacated, set aside, legally inoperative, or fully pardoned would be excluded and must be removed when they no longer qualify. - States that receive Byrne Justice Assistance Grant funds would need to submit qualifying conviction data within 180 days and on an ongoing basis or risk losing those funds. The Attorney General could redirect those funds to local governments and must report within 180 days on current record sharing, barriers, and recommendations to improve nationwide criminal history sharing.
