## Summary

**Adds a death penalty for fentanyl or fentanyl-related substances when use causes death.** The bill would also double maximum criminal fines for those fentanyl cases and preserves existing penalties for other listed substances. - People convicted of distributing fentanyl that results in a user's death would be sentenced to death. - Fines for fentanyl cases would double to up to $2.0 million for individuals and up to $10.0 million for organizations. - Penalties for other schedule I and II drugs remain: up to 20 years in prison for standard offenses, and 20 years to life if death or serious bodily injury results, with existing fines up to $1.0 million for individuals and $5.0 million for others.
