## Summary

**Time-bound due process for protective detail eligibility.** This bill would require the Secretary of Homeland Security to give presidential and vice-presidential candidates written reasons if they are denied a protective detail or additional resources, allow candidates to ask for reconsideration with supporting facts, and set a 14-day timeline for the Secretary to issue a final decision. It would also make the U.S. Secret Service Director a position appointed by the President with the advice and consent of the Senate. - Presidential and vice-presidential candidates would get a written notice naming the eligibility criteria they failed to meet and could submit a written request to reconsider that decision. - An advisory committee would receive copies of the initial notice and the Secretary’s final determination, giving it formal visibility into eligibility decisions. - The U.S. Secret Service would be led by a Director nominated by the President and confirmed by the Senate, formalizing the agency head’s appointment process.
