## Summary

**Would create a national USGS sinkhole mapping program** to study what causes sinkholes and to publish public risk maps. The bill would require use of 3D elevation data from the National Landslide Preparedness Act and a map review at least every five years. - Community planners and emergency managers would get public maps and related data to guide land-use decisions and emergency planning. - USGS and researchers would study short-term and long-term sinkhole triggers, including extreme storms, prolonged drought, shifts in water use, and aquifer depletion. - The program would be authorized only if appropriations are provided, so mapping and updates depend on future funding decisions.
