## Summary

**This bill would require the Commerce Department to create a government-wide method to identify the country of origin of shrimp** to fight illegal, unreported, and unregulated fishing, boost food safety, and improve traceability in the U.S. supply chain. - Federal and state law enforcement would gain a standardized tool to detect and combat illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing. This aims to strengthen investigations and enforcement actions. - Customs, border, and port officials would get a screening method for imports to help enforce trade restrictions and collect duties. The methodology must be usable at ports and support import monitoring. - Importers, processors, and retailers would face new origin-testing standards that apply to raw shrimp, cooked shrimp, and prepared foods containing shrimp. Tests must be quick and field-portable to limit disruption. - The Commerce Department would develop the method through NOAA and NIST in consultation with Customs and the Coast Guard, deliver the method within 18 months, and report an operational plan and any barriers within 2 years.
