## Summary

**Enable trained school personnel to administer naloxone and other emergency overdose drugs in elementary and secondary schools.** This bill would create a dedicated federal grant program and change existing funding rules so eligible entities can stock, train for, and administer drugs or devices to treat known or suspected opioid overdoses at schools. - Families and students: Schools under grant recipients would have on-site supplies and trained staff able to respond to suspected opioid overdoses, covering both public and private elementary and secondary schools. - School staff: ‘‘Trained personnel’’ may include school nurses, school-based health center staff, or staff designated by a principal; training must meet medical standards and be documented, and at least one trained person must be on site during operating hours. - Eligible entities and schools: The bill adds a new Section 544A to fund administration of overdose drugs and devices and expands Section 544 grant funding to cover both sections so entities can apply for support to implement programs. - State oversight and legal protection: Grant applicants must certify that their State attorney general has reviewed state civil liability protection laws and finds they provide adequate protection for trained personnel.
