## Summary

**Using AI to spot inaccurate tax returns.** This bill would require the Secretary of the Treasury to launch a pilot that uses artificial intelligence to identify returns inaccurate because of identity theft, fraudulent credit or deduction claims, or returns improperly prepared by third parties who are not properly identified. - Families, workers, and small businesses: Their returns would be screened for identity theft and fraudulent credit or refund claims, which could lead to detection and recoveries reported to Congress. - Tax preparers and businesses that fail to identify themselves: Returns prepared by third parties without proper identification would be specifically targeted and flagged. - Treasury, IRS, and congressional oversight: The pilot would run 18 months to 2 years, and the Comptroller General would have 180 days after the pilot ends to report to the House Ways and Means Committee and the Senate Committee on Finance on improper refunds found, any recoveries, and the AI tools' accuracy.
