## Summary

**The PRESERVE Act would create a federal process to **preserve federally owned public art on surplus federal property**.** - Local communities would get stronger guarantees that artworks owned by the federal government remain available for public viewing. Preservation plans must ensure artwork is accessible on a regular and predictable basis. - Museums and nonprofit cultural organizations could receive covered artwork as long-term loans or transfers, with agreements that include the plan's preservation requirements. - The General Services Administration would have to check each surplus property for covered art within 30 days and notify Congress within 60 days. It must form a 3 to 6 member Preservation Committee at least 90 days before any demolition, transfer, or disposal. - Prospective buyers or tenants could not take ownership, demolish, or outlease covered surplus property until the Preservation Committee submits a plan and the Administrator certifies the plan will be implemented and public access preserved.
