## Summary

**Increase awareness and early detection of lung cancer.** This resolution would designate November 2025 as National Lung Cancer Awareness Month and create a National Women’s Lung Cancer Awareness Week plus a Lung Cancer Screening Day to promote screening, education, research, and outreach to women, minorities, veterans, never-smokers, and health care workers. - Families and people at high risk: Encourages education and screening outreach. About 14.5 million people were recommended for lung cancer screening as of 2021, but only about 16 percent of high-risk individuals get screened. - Women: Highlights that more women die from lung cancer each year than from breast, ovarian, and cervical cancers combined. - Minorities and never-smokers: Calls for targeted outreach to groups with worse outcomes. Black men have the highest incidence and mortality, nonwhite people are 13 to 18 percent less likely to be diagnosed early, and 10 to 20 percent of cases occur in people who never smoked. - Veterans: Urges focus on veterans who are about 25 percent more likely to develop lung cancer and whose screening rates remain very low with fewer than 3 percent screened. - Researchers and health systems: Backs awareness of advances in biomarkers, immunotherapies, and targeted therapies while flagging uneven access to biomarker testing, limited screening sites, and transportation as barriers.
