## Summary

**Increase geographic equity in VA suicide-prevention grants.** This bill would change how the Department of Veterans Affairs scores and prioritizes applicants for the suicide-prevention grant program under the Commander John Scott Hannon Veterans Mental Health Care Improvement Act of 2019. It adds a rule to give priority to eligible entities in states that have applied but not yet received a grant and to give a scoring preference to all applicants in a state until at least one award is made. - Veterans and their families in states without prior awards would have a higher chance that local suicide-prevention projects get funded. - Local providers and veteran-serving organizations in those states would be prioritized in review and receive a scoring advantage until a first grant is awarded in their state. - The change applies only to Section 201(d) of the 2019 Act and adjusts grant scoring and prioritization procedures to promote broader geographic coverage.
