## Summary

**Limits sharing of prescreened credit reports for mortgage-related checks to protect homebuyers' privacy.** This bill would stop consumer reporting agencies from furnishing prescreen reports in connection with residential mortgage loans unless the recipient has a firm offer, has the consumer's authorization, originated or currently services the consumer's mortgage, or is an insured depository institution or credit union that holds the consumer's account. It would take effect 180 days after enactment. - Families and homebuyers: Fewer unsolicited mortgage-related prescreened credit checks and less automatic sharing of your consumer report with third parties. - Lenders, servicers, and banks: Originators, servicers, insured depository institutions, and credit unions that hold a consumer's account can still receive prescreen reports under the listed conditions. - Consumer reporting agencies: Must withhold prescreen consumer reports for residential mortgage transactions unless the narrow statutory conditions are met.
