## Summary

**Overhauls sponsor and placement rules for unaccompanied alien children.** This bill would remove the sponsor rule at 45 C.F.R. 410.1201(a)(6) and would require the Director of the Office of Refugee Resettlement to track each unaccompanied alien child released from Department of Homeland Security custody who is in the United States and involved in ongoing immigration proceedings and to work with States to find placements for those children. - Families and children: Unaccompanied alien children who are released from DHS custody and are in immigration proceedings would be tracked and actively matched with placements through state coordination. - States: State agencies would be asked to partner with the Office of Refugee Resettlement to find placements for these children, increasing their role in housing and care decisions. - Federal agency operations: The Director of the Office of Refugee Resettlement would have a new duty to monitor each qualifying child released from DHS and to coordinate placement efforts with States.
